For the next 6 weeks I’m going to participate in the Twitter Reading Group to discuss David Lankes’ Atlas of New Librarianship. Congrats to Emma Montgomery for setting this up. Intrigued to see how Twitter works for this (use #atnewlib) . Mostly I’m keen to talk about the Atlas which I think is a breakthrough book in librarianship.
The core of the book is Lankes’ appealing (but not uncontroversial) statement:
The MISSION of LIBRARIANS is to IMPROVE SOCIETY through FACILITATING KNOWLEDGE CREATION in their COMMUNITIES.
